The Cape Clear Hostel is stunningly situated in the south harbour and is within a few steps of the pebble beach and the sea. The view from all of the rooms is breathtaking. Awaken in the morning, after a great night’s sleep, to the sound of the lapping waves with the freshest of air to breathe and, if you are very lucky, your stay might just coincide with the annual arrival of Basking Sharks to the waters directly outside the bedroom windows.
The south harbour is the tranquil heart of Cape Clear and is an ideal base for those who hanker after peace & quiet and nature in the raw, but if you prefer a bit of hustle & bustle then the first of three pubs is just a five minutes walk away. A little further on and you arrive in the north harbour, the lively centre of Cape, with its local shop, café & restaurant, tourist information centre, two pubs, sandy beach and swimming for younger children. The beautiful island of Cape Clear, Ireland's southernmost inhabited island, is three miles long by a mile wide, and lies just eight miles off the coast of West Cork. Every year, at varying times, the seas around Cape are visited in large numbers by Minke Whales, Finback Whales, Humpback Whales, Dolphins, Porpoises, Sun Fish, Seals, & Basking Sharks. Scheduled and chartered Whale & Dolphin Watching trips are available and pre-booking is a must.
