Hostel quality rating

Our 5 star  Errigal Hostel is situated in a stunning corner of Ireland in County Donegal. This Donegal Youth Hostel lies at the foot of Donegal's highest mountain, Mt. Errigal and is on the Ulster Way. The Poisoned Glen, Glenveagh Castle and National Park, adjacent to the hostel are centres for walking in Donegal. From here, visit the village beach resort of Bunbeg and Bloody Foreland.

The old building has been completely demolished and has been replaced with our 60 bed, purpose built, state of the art Errigal Youth Hostel. It features some bedrooms built in a mezzanine fashion while some rooms are en-suite. Twin, 4 bedded and 6 bedded rooms will await your stay with breath taking views (overlooking the Poison Glen and Errigal Mountain)

The Donegal Hostel features all the usual characteristics of a top rated hostel including a large comfortable common room with plasma TV, a cosy room, internet access, self catering kitchen and more. Energy saving devices such as wood burning stoves have been incorporated into the building.

From April 7th till April 15th 2009 we stayed in the Errigal Hostel in beautiful Donegal! Here I want to tell how much we enjoied the stay in the Errigal Hostel

We are a Gospel Choir from Germany (Enlightening Souls- Kamp Lintfort) and we came to Ireland to give concerts around the Donegal area! The hostel was more welcoming than we could ever imagine! The owners made our stay a perfect stay! The bedrooms, common rooms, internet room, kitchen, dining rooms, reading rooms... all that was just perfect. Everything was so clean! We felt like home from the first moment. Maps, books and informationmaterial at the reception helped the choir to feel safe enough to explore the surrounding, the landscape... just Ireland.

Everything was perfectly organized. All questions were answered right away. Upcoming problems were solved right away. Cahal combined the choir with all other guests very well. He invited all to come to our concerts- many of them did... the atmosphere he created while satying in his hostel was just great! It was like visiting a friend! One of our concerts we had in the Errigal Hostel! We enjoied it so much! Many other guests listened to our songs and they didn´t need too long till they sang together with us ;-). It was like a big party.

We had great fun and i am sure that most of the choir members will come back to enjoy the hostel and the landscape around Donegal again! Lisa Wolf, Germany

We are a group of 37 pupils (aged 17 & 18) and 3 teachers from Rastatt, Germany who recently stayed at the Errigal Youth Hostel, Co. Donegal. We'd feel it necessary to send some feedback, quite simply because it is the best accommodation we have encountered on our past 3 excursions to Ireland. It is by far the best run and has the highest standard we have yet met. Not only is the accommodation immaculately clean, the breakfast most generous, the cooking facilities excellent, our host Karl and hostess Andrea's natural friendly welcome and considerate helpfulness have made a lasting impression on our pupils and the teachers. We immediately felt quite at home and in good hands. Thus, it has inofficially been voted the "Friendliest and Best Youth Hostel in Ireland" by our pupils!  This is something we cannot say for many of the other hostels we stayed in, therefore we thought you might be pleased to hear some positve feedback.  As a result it is also the first hostel we hope to return to with another school group soon. That speaks for itself! Aisling Kagerer September 2009
