With stunning views of the coast and Tory Island, and only minutes from the beach, this hostels location is next to nothing. A quiet beach is about a 3 minute walk from the hostel and the area is magnificent for walking, swimming and cycling.

Features
Originally a hunting lodge and still a listed building, this, the most northerly youth hostel in all Ireland, is sited at the northern edge of the Rosguill Peninsula in an Irish speaking (Gaeltacht) area. It was designed by a famous English architect, Sir Edwin Lutwens, and is well worth a visit for this alone.
Directions
Road/Car: Head for Carrickart. Turn right at the top of the Village to Downings.
Watch for Hostel Sign 2 km outside Carrickart. Leave Main Rd and
travel up the hill at the Golf Course. Keep to this road for hostel. You are now heading for Melmore Head.
Bus: Gallaghers Bus: 074-9137037 At Letterkenny, you can pick up this private bus operator at "The Square" which is opposite the Bus Station. Gallaghers depart at 18.10 daily for the ¾ hour journey Downings. Minibus or taxi from Downings which is 8km away. View map

Night Life
The Thatch Pub: This pub is 2 miles from the hostel and serves food until 8pm. There is live music at weekends and sometimes mid-week too.
The Wheelhouse Bar and Sands Nightclub, Downings: Bar with food and entertainment nightly.
Carrigart Hotel: Fresh fish is an outstanding feature of the Carrigart cuisine. Our menus combine local produce with modern preparations and cooking. Our lounge bar is comfortably appointed featuring courteous and efficient service. There are musical evenings with sing-songs and dancing. The drink is good and the craic is mighty!
