The Icelandic horse is a small, strong, friendly, willing, docile animal which rarely gives riders any kind of trouble. It has 2 special gaits, the tolt (running walk) and the flying pace. Riding is unique opportunity to experience the Icelandic landscape, culture and history and to discover Icelandic mentality.
Volcano Tour
Pick up from the Reykjavik City Hostel at 17.30. Then a drive to Hverageroi and the first night is spent presenting the tour and the Icelandic horse.
The tour goes over the black lava fields of the volcano Hengill into the green, hidden Valley of Horses. Then ride along the Jorukleif range of mountains and continue along the largest lake in Iceland, Thingvalavatn.
This lake lies near the Thingvellir gorge where in the beginning in 930, Icelanders held their parliament meetings. Then follow the lava steppe leading down to the Reykjadalur Valley with its Hot Springs where you can relax in the Vallets geothermal river.
Accommodation is at Eldhestar's farm and/or mountain huts. Accommodation at Reykjavik City Hostel the night after the tour.
Riding distance per day is 20-30 km (4-7 hours)
